Doha, Qatar – June 23, 2025:
Loud explosions were reported near a U.S.-operated military base in Qatar on Sunday night, following what officials described as a “credible threat” of an Iranian missile attack.
According to security sources, emergency sirens were triggered at Al-Udeid Air Base — the largest American military facility in the Middle East — after intelligence agencies detected possible missile launches from Iran. Residents in the surrounding areas of Doha also reported hearing several loud blasts and seeing smoke rising in the distance.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that defensive systems at the base were activated as a precautionary measure. “We are taking all necessary steps to protect U.S. personnel and allied forces,” a CENTCOM spokesperson stated, adding that investigations are ongoing.
Though there is no official confirmation yet of a direct hit, initial reports suggest that the explosions may have been caused by missile interception or defensive countermeasures. The Qatari government is cooperating closely with U.S. military officials to assess the situation.
The alert follows days of escalating tension in the Gulf region after senior Iranian officials issued strong warnings in response to U.S. and Israeli military activities. Tehran has denied involvement in any direct attacks but warned of “unpredictable consequences” for what it calls foreign aggression in the region.
International leaders have called for restraint amid fears of a broader conflict. The United Nations Security Council is expected to hold an emergency session if the situation further escalates.
